The Dental Crowns Procedure

First you must come to our Boston cosmetic, implant, and restorative dentistry practice and are deemed a good candidate for dental crowns.

If you are considered a good candidate for treatment, then the procedure will first require that your tooth be prepared to receive the dental crown. This will mean the removal of compromised tooth material. An impression will then be made of the tooth so that the dental crown itself can be crafted in a dental lab. A temporary crown will be placed while the custom dental crown is being created.

When you return to the practice for your permanent dental crown, the temporary crown will be removed and the permanent crown will be set. Final adjustments to the shape and appearance of the crown can be made before it is fixed in place with a dental cement.

Dental crowns are ideal for major tooth decay or tooth damage that is too substantial for other dental care treatments. In terms of tooth decay, the amount of compromised tooth material needs to be pretty severe to qualify for dental crowns. For chipped teeth or cracked teeth, the same consideration applies.
