Dental Technology – Tools of the Trade
As with all dental offices, we utilize a range of tried and tested tools to maintain our patients’ oral health, including retractors, scalers, examination mirrors, and tooth polishers. However, to provide our patients with not just superlative results, but a superlative dental experience as well, we employ the latest dental technology at our Boston office. Digital technologies allow us to expedite the treatment process for our patients in many cases while providing a more comfortable experience as well. The digital tools that we use include:
CAD CAM Dentistry and Restorations
Traditionally, dental restorations have been manufactured in an off-site dental laboratory, based on conventional and messy dental impressions of the teeth. Historically, the completion of this process often takes several weeks and requires that the patient schedule at least two appointments with his or her dentist. With digital scanned intra-oral dental CAD (computer-aided design) CAM(computer-aided manufacturing) system, we can design and fabricate dental prosthetics, including porcelain veneers and dental crowns for teeth and implants, in just one office visit. This system allows our team to ensure that the restoration meets the patient’s exacting needs and specifications, while eliminating the need for temporary prosthetics and requiring fewer visits.
Cadent iTero® Digital Impressions
The Cadent iTero® digital imaging system allows us to obtain extremely accurate impressions of the teeth. These impressions are utilized to fabricate custom dental restorations such as porcelain veneers and crowns, so accuracy and reliability are very important. With the Cadent system, we can trust that the impressions are as precise as possible and can move forward confident that the resulting restorations will have superb fit and finish. Accuracy isn’t the only benefit of the iTero® system, however; because the system is completely digital, there are no dental putties of any kind used during the impression process. This makes the process much faster and far more comfortable than that required for a traditional impression.
